A corona discharge is an electrical discharge brought on by the ionization of a fluid such as air surrounding a conductor that is electrically charged. A corona will occur when the strength (potential gradient) of the electric field around a conductor/ charged object is high enough to form a conductive region, but not high enough to cause electrical breakdown or arcing to nearby objects.
In other words it can be said as leakage of electricity to atmosphere (a loss). From maintenance point of view it is important to note from where it is comming from. In some case if it is comming from insulators, it can signify voltage leak through insulation (insulation deterioation) and can cause failure of an asset apart from a loss.
The customer can opt for a quick service / periodic service to mointor their asset instead of buying, investing and maintenance of the Corona camera and focus on their primary responsibility of 100% uptime of their transmission system. We help the customer in testing their substation with corona camera to identify the defect which can help reduce losses / prevent an outage. Below are some of the source of corona which when tracked and attended can lead to reduction of losses / prevent a costly outage.
